  3. Whats the difference between dry clutch and wet clutch

In terms of working principle and basic structure, there is no essential difference between dry clutch and wet clutch transmissions for metal stamping machines. The difference lies in the cooling method of the clutch friction plate:

(1) The two sets of clutch plates of the wet clutch are in a sealed oil tank and absorb heat through the transmission oil soaking the clutch plates.

(2) The friction plate of the dry clutch does not have a sealed oil groove and needs to be air-cooled to dissipate heat.

Dry clutch:

Using air to cool the clutch is called a dry clutch. During use, the clutch is required to be able to engage and separate from the power easily and easily, and it should work in a semi-clutch state for a short period of time, and the clutch should not overheat. Because dry clutches have no resistance from engine oil, generally speaking, the bite response is faster and the bite force is stronger. Because there is no engine oil to cool down, dry clutches generally use exposed methods to dissipate heat.

Wet clutch:

The clutch that is cooled by oil is called a wet clutch. The cooling oil does not protect the friction plate, but makes the power transmission smooth and soft. Its advantage is that it has a long service life and generally does not malfunction unless the operating procedures are violated and the clutch is often left in the state. Works in half-clutch state. It is mostly used in automatic transmissions, such as the now commonly used manual-automatic integrated transmissions. The hydraulic cylinder presses multiple steel plates and friction plates to combine the clutch. After the oil is returned, the steel plates and friction plates are separated under the action of spring force.
