1. Definition of Feeding Step and its Influence in Processing and Production

The feeding step in the processing and production industry refers to the fixed distance that a plate needs to move forward each time it is fed. This distance determines the length of the material conveyed to the processing equipment at a time, and it is calculated based on the processing technology. Once the processing technology is determined, the feeding step is also determined.

The feeding step has a significant influence on the selection of the feeder, and this can be understood from two aspects:

(1) Maximum Feeding Step: Different feeders, such as air feeders, roller feeders, and NC feeders, offer various maximum feeding steps. These feeders differ not only in terms of price but also in the maximum distance they can achieve with each feed.
In most cases, a set of processing machines, such as a punching machine or shearing machine, utilizes multiple processing technologies to manufacture various products. This leads to the use of multiple feeding steps. Therefore, when selecting a feeder, it is essential to consider the maximum feeding step required. Knowing the maximum feeding step distance allows for the appropriate selection of a feeding model that meets the needs of various processing techniques while minimizing investment.

(2) Feeding Speed of the Feeder: Although relatively rare, there are instances where the feeding step cannot be achieved due to a low feeding speed of the feeder. For example, if a punch or other equipment cuts N times per minute (also known as punch times SPM), and the desired feeding step is A, but the feeder cannot reach this length no matter the adjustment, the cause could be a low feeding speed. In such cases, the feeder fails to complete the feeding task within each blanking interval.

2. Advantages of NC Feeder in Feeding Step

When the width of the stamping material is significant or when the use of an NC servo feeder is determined from the beginning due to its operational and performance advantages, the feeding step becomes a factor that can be disregarded. This is because NC servo feeders, including three-in-one feeders, offer a feeding step of up to 9999.99mm, allowing for a wide range of settings. In stamping and shearing processes, it is highly unlikely to require such a long feeding step. Hence, when purchasing a feeder, the factor of feeding step does not need to be considered in these particular cases.
